IPL AUCTION 2022: EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

As the most-awaited auction of the year is here, the Indian Premier League is again around the corner. The auction took place on 12 February and 13 February in Bengaluru. It was also live-streamed on Star Sports and Disney plus Hotstar. Two new teams- Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants- are making their debut this season. All the 10 IPL teams were given a purse of 90 crores from which the deductions were to be made depending on the retention and purchase of players.

MUMBAI INDIANS

 

MI created a whirlwind when it bought Ishan Kishan for INR 15.25 crore on the first day. He ended up as the most expensive buy of the auction. Out of the salary purse of INR 90 crore, MI spent INR 89.9 crore in retaining 4 players and buying 21 players.

CSK’s biggest buy was Deepak Chahar at INR 14 crores. They more or less bought the same combination of players that makes them the defending champions. CSK retained 4 players and bought 21 players at the auction for INR 87.05. They were left with INR 2.95 at the end of the auction. They filled up all the 25 slots.

LSG is the only team to have exhausted its entire salary purse of INR 90 crore.

IPL 2022 brings us a total of 10 teams this season. A total of 204 players were sold for over INR 550 crores, including 67 overseas players. One of the most important players of CSK over the years, Suresh Raina, goes unsold. Ishan Kishan, Liam Livingstone, Shreyas Iyer became the most expensive players to be bought this season.
