Military coup in Myanmar

WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED?

Myanmar military on Monday i.e. on 3rd February overthrew its present government. Also detained the de facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi. Together with some politicians from her government. The citizens noticed on Monday, a complete shut down of internet services. Also of banks and public places and army men patrolling all over the places.

The people also noticed the hindered telecommunications and people had access to some of the military channels. However in one of the channels, the military leader Min Aung Hliang announced in his sentence. That they have detained Aung San Suu Kyi earlier in the morning as well as some of the politicians from Suu Kyi’s party NLD(National League for Democracy).

It was only in 2010 that democracy got restored in Myanmar. It was after 49 years of military rule. Now, with a sudden capture by the military over the Myanmar government has created a turmoil all around the world.

WORLD NATIONS STAND WITH MYANMAR:-

Nations all around the globe have condemned the incident. American President Joe Biden said on Tuesday,

“The United States removed sanctions on Burma over the past decade based on progress toward democracy. The reversal of that progress will necessitate an immediate review of our sanction laws and authorities, followed by appropriate action”

Australia also called for an immediate release of all the leaders.

“We call on the military to respect the rule of law, to resolve disputes through lawful mechanisms and to release immediately all civilian leaders and others who have been detained unlawfully.” – said Australia’s Foreign Minister Marise Payne

India too has expressed her deep concern over the whole situation. The Indian Foreign Ministry said,

“India has always been steadfast in its support to the process of democratic transition in Myanmar. We believe that the rule of law and the democratic process must be upheld. We are monitoring the situation closely.”

REASONS FOR THE COUP:-

The estimated reason for the coup which is surfacing is the one-sided victory of Aung San Suu Kyi and NLD in the previous democratic elections in which the NLD, with a large majority therefore, subsidizing the military rule.

The UNSC has called for an emergency meeting on Tuesday concerning meeting on Tuesday concerning the matter as it feels that the matter is of ‘grave concern’.
