It was only in 2010 that democracy got restored in Myanmar. It was after 49 years of military rule. Now, with a sudden capture by the military over the Myanmar government has created a turmoil all around the world.

Nations all around the globe have condemned the incident. American President Joe Biden said on Tuesday,

“The United States removed sanctions on Burma over the past decade based on progress toward democracy. The reversal of that progress will necessitate an immediate review of our sanction laws and authorities, followed by appropriate action”

Australia also called for an immediate release of all the leaders.

“We call on the military to respect the rule of law, to resolve disputes through lawful mechanisms and to release immediately all civilian leaders and others who have been detained unlawfully.” – said Australia’s Foreign Minister Marise Payne

India too has expressed her deep concern over the whole situation. The Indian Foreign Ministry said,

“India has always been steadfast in its support to the process of democratic transition in Myanmar. We believe that the rule of law and the democratic process must be upheld. We are monitoring the situation closely.”

The estimated reason for the coup which is surfacing is the one-sided victory of Aung San Suu Kyi and NLD in the previous democratic elections in which the NLD, with a large majority therefore, subsidizing the military rule.

The UNSC has called for an emergency meeting on Tuesday concerning meeting on Tuesday concerning the matter as it feels that the matter is of ‘grave concern’.
