PMO: 551 Medical Oxygen Generation Plant to be setup in government hospitals by PM Care Fund
On Sunday, PMO said in a statement, PM Care fund has given approval for the installation of 551 medical oxygen generation plants. The plants will be set up in public health facilities across the country in order to boost the availability of life-saving gas. PM Narendra Modi has directed these plants should be functional as soon as possible. He also added these plants will boost the availability of oxygen at the district level.
The plant will be established in identified government hospitals in district headquarters in various states and UTs. The procurement activity will be done through the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
Earlier this year, the PM care fund allocated Rs. 201.58 crores for installation of additional 162 medical oxygen generation plants inside government hospital facilities in the country.
The major aim behind establishing a medical oxygen generation plant at government hospitals in district headquarter is to strengthen the public health system and to make sure each of these hospitals has a captive oxygen generation facility.
Such an in-house establishment of a medical oxygen generation plant will address the day-to-day requirements of these hospitals and districts. It also added liquid medical oxygen will serve as a top-up to the captive oxygen generation.
Such an arrangement will ensure that the government hospitals do not face the sudden shortage of oxygen supplies and have continuous access to it in order to manage COVID-19 patients and other sick persons needing such support.
India is going through a tough time as it is facing a second wave of Coronavirus pandemic. It has been reported quite frequently in the past few days that hospitals are facing a shortage of medical oxygen and beds to treat the COVID patients.
