COVID-19 Vaccination have no risk when taken during Periods

A viral post has been circulating on social media, stating women above 18 years of age should not take the vaccine five days before or after their period cycle as it can affect the immunity of women.

After talking to several doctors and discussing with them about the risk involved while taking the vaccine during the period cycle, they claimed and said it is false information and also requested people not to fall for such fake news. They also added, there is absolutely no harm if women take vaccine during, after and before their period cycle unless she is planning baby. One should not delay their dose because of the period cycle.

What was the Viral Message?

The viral message reads that, “Don’t take vaccine before and after 5 days of your periods because immunity will be very less during periods. Also, the dosage of vaccine first decrease the immunity later it builds immunity so, there is a high risk of attack for one who vaccinated during periods.”

As per the reports and experts, periods do not have any kind of impact on the immunity of a person. One can even take vaccines during their periods. As periods do not have any effect on vaccines. However, several reports have claimed that the vaccine is not completely effective, but it is able to reduce the chance of infection in your body. The claim that immunity of the body reduces after taking the first dose of the vaccine is completely false.

Also, many doctors took Twitter and clarified that one’s period has no effect on the vaccine efficacy. They also mentioned such rumors are there to prevent women from having early vaccine access and urged people not to fall for it.

The government of India announced on 19^th April 2021, the decision to permit everyone above 18 years of age to get their first shot of vaccine from May 1^st.
