XIAOMI ADAPTS AN ‘ALIVE’ LOGO
REVELATION OF THE NEW ‘ALIVE’ LOGO:
Chinese tech giant Xiaomi, on 30th March, introduces its new logomark. With few minor changes in the existing one, Xiaomi adapts its new ‘alive’ logo in a Mega Launch Event.
Working on it for three years and spending nearly 3 lakh USD, the company finds the new logo to be more ‘dynamic’, ‘progressive’, and ‘alive’ than the previous one. The change made in the logo includes partial rounding off the square corners together with the addition of black and silver as supplementary colors. Also, the designers adopted new typography for the letter ‘M’.
The logomark is designed by Kenya Hara, a Japanese graphic designer and recipient of the Tokyo Art Director’s Club Award and many more.
MATHEMATICS BEHIND DESIGNING THE LOGO:
The designers wanted to have a logo of shape intermediate to that of the existing square and a circle. They used a special mathematical equation for the design of the new logo. The equation is :
|x|^n + |y|^n = 1
According to Hara, the designers and professionals did test many values of n for getting various shapes as required. After many tests, eventually, they consented at value n = 3 which gave a perfect balance between a square and a circle. Also, the designers modified the logotype of the company to match the new logo.
HARA ON THE ‘ALIVE’ CONCEPT:
Hara described the new logo in a video at the event. He said,
“Therefore, the new logo is not just a redesign of the shape but an encapsulation of Xiaomi’s inner spirit.”
He said that for a new logo, was too ‘agile’. Therefore, the new logo is a perfect balance between growth and agility.
“We believe more the technology evolves, the more it gets woven into the fabrics of our lives. The bond between humans and technology is ever-converging and this gave us the inspiration for the design concept of ‘Alive’.”
According to him, the design is essentially a reflection of the concept of ‘Alive’ which is extremely versatile.
“We have designed a dynamic logo to further emphasize the constant changes in life. “
He concluded his words by saying,
“The future of Xiaomi looks exciting.”
