Yaas Cyclone – Latest Updates
On Thursday morning cyclone Yaas reached Jharkhand via crossing the north Odisha coast, south of Balasore. This Yaas cyclone already caused extensive rain in Odisha in previous hours. According to India Meteorological Department (IMD) chief, waves as high as 2-4 meters were recorded off the coast of Odisha during the cyclone. Landfall happened in the south of Bahanaga, north of Dhamra mainly across 50km of Balasore on the coast.
- After damaging beach towns in North Odisha and neighboring West Bengal, yaas split into a severe cyclonic storm. Also overpowering low lying area with a wind speed of 130- 145 km per hour.
- The IMD predicted heavy rainfall in Jharkhand.
- The cyclone is heading towards Jharkhand and the effect on West Bengal already happened.
- The three North coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh – Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, and Vishakhapatnam have been given the gusty winds warning by IMD.

- The Bengal state faced losses of rupees 15000 crores. On Thursday the CM of West Bengal announced the launch of the Duare-Tran (relief at doorstep) scheme next month. With the main motive of helping the affected people by the cyclonic hit. Mamta Banerjee allotted 1000 crores for the relief work in the cyclonic affected area.

- In the Bhadrak district, road restoration work is underway at jamujhadi Road because heavy rain damaged the road.
- West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee previously held a review meeting in accordance with cyclone Yaas. In the meeting, district magistrate, Disaster Management Committee, along other important officials presented. On May 28 she will visit East Midnapore.
- The whole landfall process by the cyclone yaas almost completed. Most probably predicted to weaken in the next 3 hours. Because in the upcoming hour’s wind speed will fall 60 km per hour.
- Chief Minister of Jharkhand Hemant Soren suspended covid-19 drive till Thursday due to an emergency situation created by the cyclone
- All the flights from the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport distance between Mumbai to Bhubaneswar and Kolkata have been canceled.
