The recognition was not renewed in 2010 after the introduction of the new scheme of annual recognition. It was due to the failure on the part of the association to incorporate the provisions of the National Sports Development Code of India, 2011. The renewal is provided for a tenure of one year. It is for the promotion and development of Mud Wrestling as a National Sport. One important declaration was placing Mud Wrestling in the ‘Others‘ category.

Still, the association would receive the funds from the Central Government. Also, the funds would foster the promotion and development of the sport for a longer-term. The Indian Style of Wrestling association has waited for many years for recognition and now has got it finally. The Indian Style of Wrestling includes fighting in the mud, without any sports equipment or support.

WHAT IS INDIAN STYLE OF WRESTLING?

Mud wrestling or kushti is one of the Indian martial arts. Very popular in the Northern Indian land, this art, includes two opponents at a time. The wrestlers cannot use any weapon in this. Also, the opponents apply various kinds of hand and leg holds or clasps on each other to win the match. Earlier, the match used to end whenever either of the wrestlers accepted his defeat or left the ring himself. But now, some rules are incorporated in the style of wrestling, where points are given with respect to techniques applied.

With an increase in the popularity of the sport, today, many nations organize wrestling competitions as well as tournaments. Even kushti is also a sport in the modern-day Olympics and Commonwealth Games.
